Mary Johnson

Ms. Mary Johnson received her Master of Music from Southeastern Louisiana University Hammond, Louisiana  and Bachelor of Music from Southern University A&M, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was awarded Music Teacher of the Year by Baton Rouge Symphony in 2015. She is a veteran educator with East Baton Rouge Parish School System (The Dufrocq School) Music Teacher for Grades Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5, volunteering as the Dufrocq School’s dance troupe sponsor and being an LAA+ Schools Foundation Fellow.

Brandy Hawkins-Johnson

Brandy Johnson, a native of Baton Rouge, is a graduate of Baton Rouge Magnet High School. Brandy earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Loyola University New Orleans and a Master of Music from University of Kentucky. After completing graduate school, Brandy began a career as an opera singer, singing with companies such as Washington National Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Glimmerglass Festival, Chicago Opera Theatre, and La Scala in Milan. After returning to Baton Rouge, Brandy began a career and continues to work as a music educator with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. She is currently a Talented Music Teacher at McKinley Middle Magnet, Baton Rouge Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, and Forest Heights Academy. Recently, Brandy made her directing debut with Playmaker Theatre of Baton Rouge with the musical Annie Jr. She is currently music directing Xanadu Jr with Independence Park Theatre and Frozen Jr with McKinley Middle Magnet. Brandy is an active performer with Theatre Baton Rouge, Playmakers Theatre of Baton Rouge, and the Manship Theatre.

Shelton Smith

Mr. Smith has served the East Baton Rouge Parish School System for over a decade as middle school vocal music teacher and Director of Choirs. Mr. Smith is also a member of The Baton Rouge Symphony Chorus which is comprised of volunteer singers who work toward a high standard of performance, often with a professional orchestra, to present choral masterpieces in various styles and languages.

Jared Robinson

Jared Robinson serves as an administrator in West Baton Rouge Parish. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education in 2012 and his Masters in Educational Leadership in 2016 from Southern University A&M College of Baton Rouge, Louisiana (Geaux Jags!!!) When he's not following the SU Jags on the weekends, you can find him extending his love for teaching music, outside of the classroom in his private studio. Mr. Robinson has a servant's heart and has an uncompromisable view that all students can learn. 

Mr. Robinson established himself as an artist, releasing two gospel albums along-side members of his church and close friends from undergrad. Since the release of those albums, he has led worship at several local churches and has been the lead keyboard player for several gospel groups in his community. Mr. Robinson lives by quote by Ignacio Estrada “If a student cannot learn the way I teach, I'll teach the way they learn.”

Allegri Gosserand

As the Dance instructor at Sherwood Middle Magnet, Allegri Gosserand  has had  a successful experience in leading and mentoring students of various ages and backgrounds by using diverse instructional approaches and resources during her fifteen years at Sherwood Middle Academic Magnet School (SMAMS). As a certified dance teacher, her passion for dance and many years of experience provided her the opportunity to collaborate and engage with other faculty, committees, local and national artists in creative spaces.   Her hopes are through hard work, participation and dedication she can continue the tradition of excellence in our dance space.

Jeoffery Harris, Jr.

Jeoffery Harris, Jr. is a native of New Orleans, LA. He is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with a degree in Digital Design and minor in Dance. His training is in multiple genres of dance. Jeoffery is the Artistic Director/ Owner of F.A.M.E. On Tour Dance Intensive/ Competition. He currently sits on the Arts Council of Baton Rouge Inaugural Advisory Board. Jeoffery is a National Dance Adjudicator for four national dance companies and a dance convention instructor. Jeoffery is the creator of “Brown Boys Dance” an organization that promotes diversity in dance by promoting brown male dancers and choreographers. Jeoffery is a proud member of Chi Tau Epsilon Dance honor society. He has performed in numerous productions such as: Performing at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Art in Washington, D.C., where his choreography was honored on the National Level.

Cathy McManus

Cathy McManus is in her fifteenth year teaching Talented Music in Livingston Parish Public Schools. She also teaches private voice and piano at Overtones Music Studio. Cathy holds a master’s degree from the University of North Texas and a bachelor’s from Southeastern Louisiana University. She especially loves collaborating with the Talented Theatre teacher having been the music director for West Side Story School Edition and Mary Poppins Junior in recent years. She also directed a production of Into the Woods, Jr. featuring her talented music students as well as multiple variety shows. She also loves to perform and sings professionally as a chorus member with Opéra Louisiane.
